Life: Your latest fixation session for obsession.

First things first, i love the title of this thread. It's so much to say.

But my main focus for this topic was to express how much i just love the Flaming Lips. I must admit this is a very recent thing, having discovered them only a month about. But no other artists have managed to get me to buy 3 albums in such a short period of time. They will probably be hit or miss with the rest of you guys, but i need to express my love for it somewhere or else i'm gonna make a big mess.

Good thread. The Flaming Lips really appeal to me too. They have a really unique style which seems to mix indie/prog rock with electronica. At least, this is from what ive heard.

My recent obssession is with fighting games. I really want to enter a Guilty Gear tournament and see where i stand among the pro's. For the last 2-3 years me and Raij have never played anyone except each other (using a variety of different characters), and i think it'd be fair to claim that we'd provide a tough challenge, and maybe even win on a national standard.

So, if I'm right, this is the topic for insane obsessions, right?

For games, I'm sooooo obsessed with World of Warcraft, Hell Knight could tell about it. I could kill for even an hour of gameplay. It's so fantastic, that it's undescribable. And I hated it in the first place. Now I couldn't live without it.

As for music, I'm the same with Sonata Arctica as you with Flaming Lips. I've been introduced to it more than a year ago, only with one demo track, The Cage. It had so many sides, so many genres within combined with Rock, meaningful lyrics, and beautiful melodies, I just had to get to know more and more songs. By now, to my knowledge I listen all the songs, a few hours per day. It's real catchy. I've managed to go on a concert, but miserable, me and HK as well ahd to leave JUST before the band would get on the stage, to reach the last fucking bus to our city. Even on the bus, and even now, I still think we did the most stupidest thing leaving, I'd rather sleep on a bench outside than to miss such an opportunity. They won't come to hungary again in years. So yeah, the obsession is on, and still I think this is the best Rock band that exist.

Fair enough. MMORPG's like WoW are a love it/hate it thing, and its all down to how much time you put into it on a regular basis. Your obsession with it is understandable, and i only wish i could join you WoWers here (FFXI isnt very fun when you play solo).

As for Sonata Artica, their songs are very melodic and ballad-like, and they remind me of X-Japan for those reasons. I also find it strange how all these foreign bands use english as the universal language for modern music, although i guess it makes my life easier.

In my eyes, i prefer X-Japan overall because of their versatility (they started off as a generic Punk band, went through experimental progressive rock, trance and are now completely classical). Thanks to this legacy and their influence in Japan, they've become one of these bands that everyone there has at least heard of, like Queen or Led Zepellin in the UK. They're so renowned there, the president of Japan personally ordered for a museum to be set up in their memory when their lead guitarist died. RIP Hide -_-

You like Nightwish too, right, Hyper? Try Within Temptation, they have the operatic metal style that NW, and occasionally SA, has.

Currently obsessed with Gundam.

Oh, and Cata, if you've onmly been playing eachother I doubt you'll provide much of a challenge to anyone good on a competitive level. Even when you both are switching styles, you always retain something, and the game can be entirely different agaisnt different people.

Man, i remember Nightwish! Now they are a really unique band (for reasons Xel stated right there). Did any of you catch their cover of "Walking in the Air"? I thought it was better than the original, and i loved the synths.

Also, as for Guilty Gear, i really have to wait and see. I know exactly what you mean about a players default style; i personally have a tendancy to focus on the Dust moves (mixing low, aerial and normal) to try catch the opponant out when they're getting back up. And thats not taking into account the balance of attacking and defending, which varies from person to person. I'll tell you how it pans out after i enter myself in the tournament*. Im really excited to see where i stand, because i have been playing a long while, and with great consistancy too.

*FYI the tournament is called Neo Empire. Its the biggest fighter convention in the country (not saying much, to be honest), and they host them every 2 months with different games as the focus. If you ever stop by in the UK, it'd be cool to have a game (well, perhaps 50 or so, considering how far you'd have travelled).

Yeah, sorry to be a downer. The hardest part will be adjusting to different pacing. With some people, the game can go from the super fast gameplay, to Soul Calibur. Good luck with it!

Ive lost some respect for Soul Calibur since i started GG. Even if you master a character completely, use the most devastating combos available, and apply guard impacts with pinpoint precision, theres still a 20% chance you'll lose to a button bashing noob. Due to the games speed, the inconsistent rhythm of their moves can throw off even the best of players. With Guilty Gear thats about 5%; you'd have to be exceptionally lucky or talented to beat a pro Guilty Gear player on your first try, especially if they're playing at their best.

Be that as it may, Soul Calibur III is out next month here. I am so buying. As for GGX3 with online play, thats entirely possible...and i'd even go so far as to say probable given the way all these games developers are respecting online play thesedays. They did it for DoA: Ultimate with no lag on the Xbox, after all.

I like So Cal bettter for casual play, but in competitive, it's all turtling and memorizing frame rates of attacks.

Plus you'll rarely do any of the fun stuff, as you tend to stick with a limited moveset.

IRT Cata: Yeah I heard that FFXI get's boring after a while. I'm only going to join to WoW fully around Xmas, at least that's in plan. It's like a neverending gameplay, ofcourse that1s what MMOs are about.

IRT Xel: Yeah, I know about Nightwish, and even a few tracks from Within Temptation. One of my friends showed them to me. Indeed, they're pretty good in melody and lyrics, but one thing I don't like in them much is the female singer. I never really liked females in Rock, that's why Sonata is still on top.
